Hi my name is Abigail Spark. I go to Nairn Academy and I started S5 just before the summer holidays. I’m currently doing three Highers in Biology, RMPS and English and one National 5 in Maths.
“As soon as I looked at it, I thought “this is the course for me”
I discovered schools/college courses at Inverness College UHI through my guidance teacher. I was intrigued to find out more, so I looked up the courses that Inverness College provided for school pupils and I came across the Skills for Work Hospitality course. As soon as I looked at it, I thought “this course is for me” because I have never been one for being able to talk to people I don’t know and I thought this course could really help me out.
Before going into the course I started looking into hospitality a little more and I thought to myself that I could pursue a career in this industry. The pathway I have chosen offers me the qualifications I need to pursue this in the future and also the confidence I need to go through with it. I have to thank my lecturer and the friends I made in my course for helping me throughout my time in college but I do also have to thank my family and also my friend who wasn’t in college with me but was really supportive.
I am hoping I can get a job in a hotel or a job in party planning in the future because I feel like those are the two things I want to do.
I’m planning to go back to do the Skills for Work Professional Cookery course this year and then the HNC in Hospitality and I think after that I will be ready to choose a career in either the hotel industry or events. I’ll just wait and see what the future has in store for me!
