As our resident librarian, Carol Hart is somebody you will come across time and time again on your learner journey at Inverness College UHI. Not only is Carol extremely knowledgeable about all our courses and the relevant study materials required, she is also extremely approachable and a whizz at sourcing the right reading materials for you.
Here, Carol tells you more about her role at Inverness College UHI and why she’s taking life coaching lessons from comedian Sarah Millican.
“Today is National Read a Book Day so there’s really no better day to introduce myself. I have been the librarian at Inverness College UHI for the last 9 years working in what I believe to be the best job in the world. I gained my English Literature degree from the University of Wales in Bangor, then went on to complete a postgraduate at Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen. I have been a librarian for 27 years with many organisations including High Life Highland, where I was responsible for purchasing all books for Highlands and Islands libraries.
My role at Inverness College UHI is to help students source the right resources for their course, whether that’s an online journal or collection, or accessing the books on their reading lists. We also have a fantastic fiction collection in the library donated by staff and students who want to pass on their books. At the moment I am reading ‘How to be a Champion’ by Sarah Millican. Not only is it extremely funny but it is giving me some life coaching along the way!
We always remember a great book, one of my book memories takes me back to my
student days, when I used to read ‘Milligan’s War’ by the brilliant Spike Milligan on the train to university. I would sit and laugh out loud at his nonsensical take on life! There really is nothing like being engrossed in a good book. Just find a story that appeals to you and it will forever remain in your memory.
Whatever you do today, just make sure you find a new book. Happy reading everyone!
You’ll find Carol Hart in the Library between 9am and 5pm, Monday to Friday.
